Applications And Properties Of Polycarbonate(PC) Polymers
Polyesters are very important properties that provides the used in different applications in engineering and daily applications. Actually polyesters constitutes very narrow class in thermoplastic polymers but its applications in daily life is very prominent. In here, we explained the properties of polyesters and general applications of them.
As you understand from its name, polyesters are the polymer structures with ester(CO-C) bondinds in monomers. The most prominent example for thermoplastic polyesters is polyethylene terephthalate(PET). We said ‘for thermoplastics’ because also there is an another group is called as thermosetting polyesters. A polyester polymer can be either thermoplastic or thermosetting according to its cross-linked molecular structure.
PET is not have any exact amorphous or crystalline structure, it depends on the cooling rate from molten state. Rapid cooling gives more amorphous structure. Also deformation recovery and low moisture absorption propeties of PET polymer are very important.
Typical applications of PET can be listed as;
The chemical representation of PET is (C2H4–C8H4O4)n, n means the number of monomers. The production techniques for PET is step polymerization in general. Degree of crystallinity of PET ranges between amorphous to 30% of crystallinity. Melting temperature of PET is around 265C and glass transition temperature of PET is around 70C. PET has a very good elastic behaviour according to average values in polymers, that has around 200% of elongation according to its original shape. Tensile strength of PET is 55 MPa and modulus of elasticity of PET is 2300 MPa.
These are the general properties of polyesters and PET. Do not forget to leave your comments and questions about polyesters and PET below. Your precious feedbacks are very important for us.
