Knowing the mesh options in ANSYS® Meshing is very vital to obtain the required mesh structure according to the physical finite element model. There are lots of options for mesh optimization in ANSYS® and one of them is the Automatic Mesh-Based Defeaturing option. In this article, we will explain, what is the Automatic Mesh-Based Defeaturing option in ANSYS® Meshing.
You can adjust the Automatic Mesh-Based Defeaturing option in ANSYS® Mesher as shown by the red box above.
This option, defeatures the small or dirty geometries according to the Defeaturing Tolerance value that you entered. In volume meshing, if you do another sizing for local sections, this sizing option will be overridden on the mesh based defeaturing that is being stated here.
The default defeaturing tolerance value is 75% of the minimum size of mesh structure defined by you for volume meshing, and 50% of the minimum size of mesh structure for surface meshing.
Defeaturing tolerance value is automatically updated according to your min size mesh values if it is in the default option.
If there are close vertices in geometry, automatic mesh-based defeaturing can resolve this problem.
