Moving Sketch Entities In Solidworks(Illustrated Expression)
When you making sketches to obtain 3D geometries, you need copy them sometimes in Solidworks. To do it, there is a command called as ‘Copy Entities’ in Solidworks sketching. In this article we will explain the use of ‘Copy Entities’ command with a very basic example below.
To use the ‘Copy Entities’ command in Solidworks, you need to inside an active sketch like above. For example, we want to copy the little circle that is shown by red arrow above. To do it, click on little pop up menu as shown by green arrow then click on ‘Copy Entities’ command inside green box.
After entering into the ‘Copy Entities’ command, click to select the copied objects as shown by green arrow. There are two methods of copying entities in ‘Copy Entities’ command.
If you select the ‘From/To’ method as shown in green box above, you need to select a reference picking point for copy operation as shown by red arrow. For example, we selected the reference picking point as coordinate system’s point. After selecteing the pick point, you need to place your sketch entity to another place as shown by second red arrow. The difference from the ‘Move Entities’ command, the original sketch that is selected to copy will not disappear in ‘Copy Entities’ command.
If you select the second method for ‘Copy Entities’ command as shown by green arrow above, you need to enter the displacement values for X and Y coordinates from red box. You can see the selected object as shown by blue arrow and the copied object as shown by red arrow.
If you done with the copying sketch entities with ‘Copy Entities’ command, click on little green yes icon as shown by orange arrow.
