Defining A Moment As A Function In ANSYS Mechanical(Illustrated Expression)

In this article of Mechanical Base we will show you how to define time-dependent Moments in ANSYS Mechanical. So you can define Moment value to geometries as time-dependent functions which provides to obtain very realistic model of physical systems in ANSYS Mechanical. Moments are boundry conditions in finite element analysis(FEA) that is very important to define it correctly.

How To Define Time-Dependent Moment Value In ANSYS Mechanical?

Click on Moment.

To apply a moment as time function to a part in ANSYS Mechanical, you need to right click on analysis system(Static Structural in this example). After that you need to hover your mouse on Insert tab as shown by red arrow then click on Moment command as shown in red box above in ANSYS Mechanical.

Select the geometry in ANSYS Mechanical.

You can select the geometry to apply moment as time function on it as shown by red arrow above. Click on geometrşc feature or features then click on Apply button in Geometry section as shown by red arrow in ANSYS Mechanical.

Select the Function method for time-dependent Moment in ANSYS Mechanical.

You can define the moment value as Components or Vector but we will select Vector from Define By section above for this example. Click on little-pop-up menu as shown by red arrow above then click on Function method to define time dependent moment in ANSYS Mechanical.

Define the function of Moment.

Define the moment function as shown in red box above. Use “time” as variable when you are typing the function. You can see the result of the function with changing time from Tabular Data as shown by red arrow above.

Change the direction of time-dependent moment.

You can define the direction of time-dependent moment in ANSYS Mechancal as shown by red box above. Then click Apply button from Direction section  as shown by red arrow.

Select the time-dependent moment behavior.

You can change the time-dependent moment behavior in ANSYS Mechanical as; Rigid, Deformable, Coupled, Beam etc… as shown by red box above.

Change the Number Of Segments value of time-dependent moment in ANSYS Mechanical.

You can change the segmentation of Tabular Data as shown by red arrow above by entering a Number Of Segments value as in red box. This will change the dividing value of 0-1 seconds in Tabular Data also which defines the row number of Tabular Data.

So defining time-dependent moment value in ANSYS Mechanical is very easy like that.
