Defining Nodal Displacement In ANSYS® Analyses

1 min reading time..

ANSYS® provides various kinds of nodal tool to define boundary conditions in nodal-base. If you are dealing with a more theoretical project, you can use nodal boundary condition definitions in ANSYS®.

One of these nodal-based boundary conditions in ANSYS® is the ‘Nodal Displacement’. Here, we explain how to define nodal displacement in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Displacement values are generally used as input values to see the stress and strain distribution on constrained parts or materials.

How To Define Nodal Displacement In ANSYS® Mechanical?

To define nodal displacement in ANSYS®, you need to create a named selection for it. This named selection must be defined as nodal-based as below. You must select the node selection tool and select the nodes from the created mesh structure.

Select the required nodes for named selection.

After that, right-click on analysis in ANSYS® Mechanical, then hover your mouse on the ‘Insert’ tab. And click on the ‘Nodal Displacement’ as shown below.

Click on the ‘Nodal Displacement’.

Then select the created nodal named selection for nodal displacement as shown below.

Select the required named selection for the ‘Nodal Displacement’.

There are three components that you need to define your nodal displacement value for each of them. You can define a constant value as above. Also, you can define the displacement value as; tabular(time), function, or free.

Define the magnitudes of the nodal displacement.

Conclusion

As you see above, the definition of nodal displacement is very simple in ANSYS® Mechanical.
