Definition Of Time Dependent Pressure In ANSYS

In this article, we will show how to define pressure values that depend on time as a function in ANSYS® Mechanical. You can assign pressure values that change according to a function of the time variable. You can assign realistic pressure values that depend on time like real physical situations. You know that pressure is a boundary condition in the finite element method(FEA) that is very important to define correctly to obtain real results.


How To Define Pressure Value As A Function Of Time In ANSYS® Mechanical?(Illustrated Expression)

Select pressure from the list above in ANSYS® Mechanical.

First of all, you need to open the ANSYS® Mechanical interface to assign pressure values as a time function to parts. Right-click on the analysis system in ANSYS® Mechanical interface(Static Structural in this example). Hover your Mouse on the Insert section as shown by the red arrow above then click on Pressure as shown by the red box in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Select faces of a feature to assign pressure as a time function in ANSYS® Mechanical.

To define a pressure that is a function of time, you can only select faces or surfaces of the parts in ANSYS® Mechanical as shown by the red arrow. Because you need a geometric area to define pressure that is a time function in the physical mean. Geometry selection for the pressure that is a time function, you need to activate geometry tab as shown by red box above then you can select a face or surface of a part in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Select your faces then click apply.

After the selection of faces or surfaces of parts in ANSYS® Mechanical, click on the Apply button in the Geometry tab as shown by the blue arrow above.

Select the Function method for time-dependent pressure in ANSYS® Mechanical.

You can define the pressure value as Normal To, Components, or Vector that can be selected from Define By section. We selected Normal To for this example. Click on the little pop-up menu as shown by the red arrow above, then click on the Function method as shown in the red box.

Enter the pressure function then specify the Number Of Segments in ANSYS® Mechanical.

Enter the pressure function value as shown by the red box above. You need to write “time” for each variable inside the function. You can see the results of the pressure function in each time step as shown by the red arrow above.

Then enter several Segments as in the green box for segmentation or row number of Tabular Data. You can see the Tabular Data segmented according to the entered number as shown by the green arrow.
