The velocity ratio is the ratio of the rotational velocity of the pinion to the bigger gear’s rotational velocity. But the calculation of the velocity ratio of gear pairs can be done with the proportion of different pieces of information.

Velocity ratio of different gear pairs can be found;

- Proportion of pinion’s angular velocity to bigger gear,
- Proportion of rotational velocity to bigger gear’s rotational velocity,
- Proportion of pitch radiuses of pinion and bigger gear,
- The proportion of several teeth of pinion and bigger gear.
