A complete sketch must be fully defined to see if it has excessive or insufficient relations between sketch entities in Solidworks sketching. In this article making Solidworks sketches fully defined is explained with a very basic example below.
For example, we want to give the all required relations and dimensions on the sketch above in Solidworks. What we need to do is, click on little pop-up menu beneath ‘Display/Delete Relations’, then click on ‘Fully Define Sketch’ option as shown by blue arrow above.
After clicking on the ‘Fully Define Sketch’ command, you can select entities to be fully defined from blue box region;
You can also select only required relations from red box region above by selecting or deselecting them individually as shown by red arrow.
Dimensions are also relations in Solidworks sketching. You can fully define your horizontal and vertical dimensions separately. Also you can define your horizontal and vertical dimension’s bases as shown y orange arrows above. You dimensions will be defined referemced to these selected bases. Also you can define your dimension placements from orange box region;
After you done with fully define adjustments, click on little green yes button at left-top in Solidworks sketching.
