Maximum Corner Angle Mesh Metric In ANSYS Meshing(Illustrated Expression)
As we said in all articles about mesh metrics in ANSYS, mesh metrics are generally used for asses the mesh structures situations in various basis. One of these mesh metrics to asses the mesh structures situation is ‘Orthogonal Quality’. In this article we will explain;
To adjust the mesh metric to ‘Orthogonal Quality’, click on ‘Mesh’ tab as in red box and select the ‘Orthogonal Quality’ from the pop up menu as shown by green box in ANSYS Meshing.
After selecting the ‘Orthononal Quality’ for mesh metric in ANSYS, you can see the minimum, maximum, average and standard deviation values of mesh structure that is created. Also there is a graph that shows the dispersion of various orthogonal quality mesh metrics according to the number of elements.
Orthogonal quality is computed with vector mechanics. Calculations is done by using the face normal vector, the vector from the cell centroid to the centroid of each of the adjacent cells, and the vector from the cell centroid to each of the faces. It is sound complex but what you need to know about ‘Orthogonal Quality’ is, 0 is worst and the 1 is the best.
Orthogonal quality is also generally used to asses the mesh shape quality as skewness of mesh structures. Orthogonal quality can be described like above in very basic terms. Leave your comments and questions about ‘Orthogonal Quality’ mesh metric in ANSYS Meshing.
