In Solidworks sometimes you need to create points to obtain referances for further drawings or sketchings. So this kind of thing is very important to do in Solidworks. You can do this in Solidworks with Point command. In this article we will show you how to obtain or create points referanced to features in Solidworks.

To create a point in Solidworks, click on pop-up menu beneath the Referance Geometry tab as shown by red arrow above, then click on Point command as shown by red box above.
There are bunch of point creation methods in Point command as shown by red box above. Actually, you do not need to select one of them in Point command, you can directly select the geometric referance to create points and required method will be selected behalf of you by Point command.
Arc Center: This method of Point command creates a point at the center of selected arc or circle in Solidworks.
Center of Face: This method creates a center point of a selected feature faces in Solidworks.
Intersection: You can create a point at the intersections of sketches in Solidworks by selecting this method of Point command.
Projection: You can project an intersection or a point to a selected face or plane with this method in Point command.
On Point: You can create a point on an another point in Solidworks.
You can select an arc to create a point at the center of it as shown by red arrow above. The Arc Center method in Point is selected automatically as in red box in Solidworks.
We selected a cylinder face and a point is created at the center of it as shown by red arrow above. Center of Face method is selected automatically as shown by red box in Point command.
We selected an arc sketch as shown by red arrow and an linet hat intersects this arc as shown by red arrow above again. A point is created by Point command at intersection point as shown by green arrow above in Solidworks. Intersection method is automatically selected as shown by green box..
As you can see above, we selected a point as shown by green arrow and a face to project it to this as shown green arrow again. The projected point is like that as shown by green box again. Projection method is automatically selected as in red box in Solidworks.
As you can see above, a point can be created directly selecting a point as shown by red arrow above with Point command in Solidworks. On point method in Point command is automatically selected as in red box.
Creation of points in Solidworks is very versatile and very easy to do with Point command.
