These two rubber types are very important in polymer chemistry. They are used as elastomer polymers in some engineering applications. In here, we will explain the properties and applications of nitrile rubbers and polyurethane rubbers.
The nitrile rubber is a copolymer of two compunds. These compounds are butadiene and acrylonitrile. They can have compositions around 50% respectively in nitrile rubbers. Because of that chemical composition, nitrile rubbers are also called as ‘butadiene-acrylonitrile rubbers’ in market. Nitrile rubbers are vulcanizable. Because of this property, they can have very good resistance to abrasion, oil and water. Because of these properties, nitrile rubbers are generally used for gasoline pump parts and hose sealings. Footwear is also very important example of application.
As you know that elastomer polyurethanes has lesser cross-linked structure compared with thermosetting polyurethanes. With this small number of cross-linking, they show elastomer behavior. Elastomer polyurethanes are generally produced in foam form, and thet are used in cushion ans automobile seats. Unfoamed polyurethanes are used in shoe soles and car bumpers. Polyurethanes that has no cross-linked structures are thermoplastic. Thermoplastic polyurethanes can be injection molded.
These are the general characteristics of thermosetting polyurethanes and nitrile rubbers that are avaliable in market. Do not forget to leave your comments and questions about thermosetting polyurethanes and nitrile rubbers below.
